Jesus said to His disciples again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." When He had said this, He breathed

on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.

If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven;

if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."

John 20:21-23

The Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist – equip and sanctify us for living as Christ’s people. Knowing our weakness and our tendency to stray into sin, God provides the Sacrament of Reconciliation as our pathway of return to the fullness of life in Christ.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is Christ’s personal invitation to repentance and continuing conversion. By confessing our sins and hearing anew God’s gracious word of mercy, we receive God’s forgiveness and are reconciled with Christ’s Church.

All Catholics are typically expected to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation at least once a year.

FIRST RECONCILIATION

Young children are invited to learn about the Sacrament of Reconciliation, one of the most beautiful sacraments in our Catholic Faith, in the 2nd grade. It is through Reconciliation that we receive God's love and forgiveness and are brought back into union with the Church.

Celebrating this sacrament should be joyful, peaceful and reassuring. Our goal is to create an open dialogue between you and your child as he or she prepares to receive this sacrament. Since infancy, you have been teaching your child how to make good choices and to recognize the difference between good and bad actions through your words and your behavior. You have instilled in them a sense of right and wrong, and an understanding of the words "sorry", "apology", and "forgiveness". These are the cornerstones of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Please use this parish resource as your child prepares to celebrate this sacrament and continues to grow and learn from God, from you and from our St. Aloysius Parish Church community.

Your family's preparation for First Reconciliation should be a grace-filled time. We hope your family feels well-prepared and experiences God's forgiving love in the celebration of this wonderful sacrament.
